Dr. Sohail Masood
Dr. Masood is a philanthropist and a serial entrepreneur in healthcare with more than 35 years of experience in the home infusion industry. Dr. Masood has received numerous awards, including “Entrepreneur of the Year” from Ernst & Young in 1999, 2007 & 2017. Masood was the pioneer and leading provider of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) for the treatment of individuals with neuromuscular diseases. The first two patients in California receiving IVIG received their treatment from Dr. Masood. Dr. Masood educated local neurologists and payors, including Medicare and Medicaid, about the uses of IVIG and changed the policies to include IVIG as an approved drug. In 1996 Ultracare became Crescent Healthcare. In February 1997 as a result of a Medicare policy change, the patients were no longer covered for their treatments. Dr. Masood took the risk on moral grounds and continued to supply patients with the drug for six months without reimbursement. As a result of his hard work Medicare decision was reversed in July of 1997. In 1998, Crescent acquired Apria Healthcare’s infusion operations in CA. Later opened a pharmacy in Florida. In 2004, Dr. Masood sold majority shares in the company to a private equity firm. In February 2012, Crescent was ultimately sold to Walgreens.
Dr. Masood founded MAAS Medical in 2002, a company to create a state-of-the-art infusion pump to infuse intravenous drugs. Baxter purchased the company from Dr. Masood in 2007.
In 2010 Dr. Masood founded KabaFusion, a home infusion company. Currently KabaFusion has 26 pharmacies across the country. Kabafusion is the largest, privately held, independently owned home infusion company in the US.
Dr. Masood has established foundations to help neuromuscular diseases, Down Syndrome, and various other causes. Dr. Masood lives in Weston, MA with his wife Mona, daughter Laila & son Omar. Omar has Down Syndrome.
